Hauntings, U.F.O.s, Mysterious places, Out of Body

The Haunting in Connecticut. Is it fact or fiction? It is based on a true story, however, bear in mind that Hollywood does add it's "touch" to such things. What do you think?

The Haunting in Connecticut is a horror/thriller film released on March 27th, 2009 which is based on the allegedly true story of the Snedeker family's encounter with the paranormal in Southington, Connecticut.

The story involves a family that is forced to relocate near a clinic where their teenage son was being treated for cancer. The family begins experiencing violent, supernatural events that the parents first blame on stress and hallucinations from the boy's illness and treatment. The family later discovers the home's haunted past, and seeks the assistance of a local priest. The priest then investigates the home, suggesting that the spirits are trapped. The priest then finds the remains of the boy medium "Jonah" whom was forced to be the medium of the house's former funeral home. He takes the remains out of the house thinking he has ended the events, he then learns that Jonah's spirit was trying to help guide the trapped spirits out, now unable to do so, all thats left in the house are the angry spirits used for necromancy by the funeral home's owner, whom is long gone. After finding strange markings carved into his body, the family's son, Matt is rushed to the hospital, after learning about Jonah, he breaks out and returns to the house, he locks the rest of the family out, and proceeds to break down the walls. Behind the walls, are corpses of the victims of the funeral home owner, with their eyelids cut out and markings carved into their skin, then he starts to burn the house and bodies down, to get the spirits to leave. His mother then comes in to save him, while firemen pull them both out of the burning house. Firemen try to wake Matt, while he is about to die. The ghost of jonah then shows up beside the family, and Matt wakes up, having recovered from his cancer.

Promotional material for the movie claims that it is based on the "true story" of paranormal activities experienced by the Snedeker family in the 1980s. The Snedekers moved into a house in Southington, Conn., and would later claim that it was plagued by some manner of demonic presence. Carmen Snedeker described the demons; "One of the demons was very thin, with high cheekbones, long black hair and pitch black eyes. Another had white hair and eyes, wore a pinstriped tuxedo, and his feet were constantly in motion. Also one had a very big smile that on each side touch his eyes, and he was very short." The house was examined by Ed and Lorraine Warren. The story follows that mortuary equipment was discovered in the basement, and Lorraine Warren would later state, "In the master bedroom, there was a trap door where the coffins were brought up, and during the night, you would hear that chain hoist, as if a coffin were being brought up. But when Ed went to check, there was nobody down there. Lorraine Warren has told the Associated Press that the house was cleared of any presence after a seance conducted in 1988.

There are, of course, always two sides to every story. According to other sources (not promoted by the movie's website) declare that nothing at all ever happened there.

I respect Lorraine and Ed Warren's work a great deal, but it seems as if this is one more instance of "creative license" being taken with actual facts. For another take on it check out:

One thing is for sure - true or not, all this hype and speculation will do for "A Haunting in Connecticut" what it did for "The Exorcist" and "The Amityville Horror"...sell tickets.

Twas The Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the mat… Continue
